Hej, hello, hola! It's been almost two weeks without me updating this diary. It
has been quite hectic with an exam and a presentation for another course, but
the group managed to meet up on 11.01 to start assembling the poster.
On the evening of 10.01 (after the exam), I started to design a template for our
poster:
During the meeting, we first discussed which figures we would like to put in.
But before that, we thought about the dimensions and found out that it was about
2/3 lengthwise and the height of the whiteboard in the meeting room 'Small' at
SciLife. To fit our figures in a better proportion, we decided to change the
template into:
It was during the meeting that Arif informed us that he finally got the phenotype
data for our samples, but we figured it was too late by then to redo everything
and adding an extra (several?) layer of complexity to our analyses.
Anyway, Xueqing has made some figures for the gene networks, but the figures were hard
to interpret since the nodes were big enough only for 2-digit numbers as the label.
Arif proposed identifying a metabolic pathway that is affected significantly
across the 3 progressions, lo and behold, we found fatty acid metabolism!
So instead, a 'simpler' network was made using a programme called Cytoscape.
We also agreed to do a figure to explain our workflow instead of listing them,
as we thought it would be simpler to understand. Additionally, I also had to
redo the volcano plot to harmonise the colour scheme (btw thanks to Lars for
showing the Wes Anderson colour palette tumblr, one of which matched KTH's
colour scheme very nicely) and added the legends.
We had another meeting on 12.01. Vasili and Xueqing did the bulk of the work
for the intro and summary (also with Arif) - as I had to leave early for another
meeting. I contributed with the volcano plots and the figure annotations
(except for the network) and also the workflow figure.
We now (14.01.2018 23:00) have finalised our poster and have sent it to the
printing company. Hopefully the resolution stays and no pixelated figure showing
tomorrow. Excited to present and listen to what other groups have done!
Vi ses!
