BREAKING CHANGES

  • Chai now only supports EcmaScript Modules (ESM). This means your tests will need to either have import {...} from 'chai' or import('chai'). require('chai') will cause failures in nodejs. If you're using ESM and seeing failures, it may be due to a bundler or transpiler which is incorrectly converting import statements into require calls.
  • Dropped support for Internet Explorer.
  • Dropped support for NodeJS < 18.
  • Minimum supported browsers are now Firefox 100, Safari 14.1, Chrome 100, Edge 100. Support for browsers prior to these versions is "best effort" (bug reports on older browsers will be assessed individually and may be marked as wontfix).

Would it be possible to pull out the glob update as a separate PR and merge it? The glob < 9 package is now issuing a deprecation warning on install, which is confusing to some users.

Glob versions prior to v9 are no longer supported

@ggrossetie
Copy link
Member Author

For reference, here's glob changelog:

https://github.com/isaacs/node-glob/blob/main/changelog.md

From glob v9, the minimum Node version is 16:

Only support node 16 and higher.

As far as I know glob has very few usages in Asciidoctor(.js) so even if glob v9 is a full rewrite, with significant API and algorithm changes I don't think it will affect us that much.

Personally, I'd just prefer to get rid of it. I really don't like the behavior the maintainer exhibited and I no longer trust the package.

The package is used once in Opal to handle the Dir.glob request. It's super approximate anyway as it is. I anticipate there will be little to no impact if we switch to picomatch.

I don't mind switching as it removes a few dependencies in the process. Picomatch is also 4 times smaller than glob 🎉
