Thanks for the feedback! Would you mind describing more what your ideal search would be like? Are the categories not specific enough to find the bucket where the emoji you want lives?
The best example I've seen is the Windows emoji picker. Search for any emoji on your mind, and it shows all relevant emojis. For example, if I search thinking, I get three results of emojis having to do with thinking:
This isn't the biggest pet peeve. The categories are nicely laid out, and it only takes a few seconds to scroll through and find the target emoji. But just like with a search bar that lets you search for apps on your phone, a search bar here would let users search and find faster their favorite emojis.
If I badly need to search, I can go to Inspect Element and search there. I just need to be in the right category before searching:
Thanks for the feedback! This is similar to both the Slack emoji picker as well as the native Apple one. It's not a lack of data on my side to implement something like that, but I've struggled with finding a design I'm happy with that makes search possible but not out of place.
It would be super helpful to search through thousands of emojis.
