After inserting a Getting Started card into certain Newton models, it will not be recognized until you flip the “locking tab”. This likely applies to all PCMCIA cards used in earlier Newton devices, but should be tested.
Additionally, the Getting Started card cannot be read on MessagePad devices if they are still running the original 1.00 version of Newton OS. According to Jean-Christophe Bousson’s Newton MessagePads Facts and FAQs (1993), Newton OS 1.00 has a problem with reading the card.
Section 3.3 states: “1.01: Fixed incompatibility with Getting Started Card.”
