Description

I would like to request a new panel applet that displays the title of the currently active window in the panel.

Mouse wheel on the applet would focus the next or previous window within the workspace, cycling through all windows in a stack before moving to the next window outside the stack

Use Cases

  • Quickly identifying the active window without having to look at the window decoration
  • Improving situational awareness in multi-window workflows
  • Providing context for keyboard-driven workflows where window focus changes frequently
  • Helping users with smaller screens or tiled window setups where the title bar might be shorter

Expected Behavior

  • The applet would display the title of the currently focused window in the panel
  • The title text would update dynamically when switching between windows
  • By default only window title text (no icon, no application name)
  • Optional tooltip showing the full title when hovering over a truncated title

Benefits

This feature would enhance productivity by providing immediate visual feedback about the active window context, especially beneficial for power users who frequently switch between multiple applications or windows with similar appearances.
