I would prefer WPCC to take up the role of everything the Wordpress Foundation failed at and as serve as the umbrella organisation to coordinate and facilitate corporation and cross communication between different community led initiatives towards betterment of the Wordpress ecosystem.

If the Trademark comes in the way of doing that, forking should be considered a viable option.

Wordpresses most valuable asset has always been the community. Not meant to be comprehensive but this includes:

• The users
• The contributors
  • Core contributors
  • Plugin Developers
  • Theme Developers
• Hosting providers
• Educators
• Organizers
• Editors and Publishers
• Financial Backers

As @namithj said,, I too can see the WPCC acting in the vacancy that the failed WP foundation left, by acting as a transparent and governable organization that advocates for the betterment of WordPress as a software and community. The WPCC can lead the way in creating a modern, community centered, and sustainable future for WordPress and its valuable community.

In a more practical sense right now I can see this ideologic goal being met by filling in where possible for the gaps that A8C is removing themselves from for as long as Matt makes that tenable.

• Advocate for continued governance change and oversight
• The sponsored contributor program you shared was very cool. A targeted area that wordpress needs some love on.
• Provide assistance and mentorship in organizing community events in the wake of WordCamp's being shuttered. There are some amazingly bright and talented people who have been around WordPress and the community for a long time. Their insights are going to be extremely valuable for a new "generation" of passion filled contributors.
• Highlight community news and shine a spotlight on valued contributions
• Be the resource or partner with the resource to help contributors at all levels dive into WordPress and push that skillset as far as they want to take it.
• Advocate, develop and Impliment a plan for a sustainable WordPress ecosystem that isnt reliant on one sole companies contributions and financial generosity but instead leverages small individual contributors balanced with large corporate backers to provide the reach and flexibility the organization would need to remain impactful.

This is my work account but commenting from my personal perspective (sorry I don't have two GitHub accounts)

Personally I would love for the collective to support events, maybe help with the things that can be shared, swag, lanyards, conferencing, policies, incident response etc.

I would like to see us try and bring together the various projects who are interested in building tech that supports the whole community, or different parts of the community that may feel neglected.

A place where people can donate to, a feel comfortable that the foundation is transparent and run by a group who form a consensus.

Maybe a FFTF that includes non core contributions, so I could commit to a WPCC-FFTF.
