.TH "MAN.VIM" 7 "May 2021" "" ""
.
.SH NAME
man.vim \- better syntax highlighting for editing manpages
.
.SH DESCRIPTION
.
.SS Default man.vim
The standard syntax file for
.BR man (1)
pages in
.BR vim (1)
is quite lackluster.
In fact, it doesn't make sense at all.
Colors just randomly appear.
It doesn't even use the more advanced
.I "nroff.vim"
syntax file as a base.
.
.SS This man.vim
.
.PP
This syntax file includes the
.I "nroff.vim"
file as a base,
and it adds additional syntax highlighting specific to common features of
manpages.
.
.PP
It provides adequate syntax highlighting for the
.BR bold ,
.IR italic ,
.IB "and " "alternating " versions
commonly used in manpages.
It also provides highlighting for the preprocessor line at the top of a
manpage.
The highlighting will warn you when an incorrect preprocessor character has
been entered.
.PP
Support for syntax folding is provided.
Folds will be generated for
.I .SH
sections and
.I .SS
subsections.
The fold for sections terminates at the line before the next section,
and the fold for subsections terminates at the line before the next subsection
or section.
