As $SUBJECT. In my day job, I must use a variety of Python versions spanning from 3.8 to 3.11 (soon to include 3.12). Add in numerous venvs, and it's already a lot. Add in the unnecessary dupes from /bin/ (on modern Linux, it's a symlink to /usr/bin), and it becomes useless.

This is maybe a separate issue, but making the global search paths configurable would solve this and a myriad of other (including cross-platform) papercuts.

This should be addressed in the discovery tool. Moving this there.
