Microsoft PowerToys version

0.51.1

Running as admin

  • Yes

Area(s) with issue?

Video Conference Mute

Steps to reproduce

not sure exactly how to repro it (but I'm paying attention to try to figure out the exact steps)

I think the bar is showing up after a MS Teams meeting where I've used the mute button in the app 🤷‍♂️

✔️ Expected Behavior

I can click the microphone off button and the bar will disappear

image

report bug zip file (if that helps): PowerToysReport_2022-01-04-08-36-31.zip

❌ Actual Behavior

the bar won't disappear & clicking the microphone off button isn't doing anything

Other Software

No response

clicking the microphone off button isn't doing anything

To be sure: does that mean the mic is not actually muted too?

I don't know, wonder how I would check that? 🤔 When I went into my sound settings I had 3 mic's and the default one had the green bar that was going up & down if I talked.

I exited & re-opened PowerToys and the mute bar didn't pop-up so I assume the issue is within the PowerToys app

And which one is selected in PowerToys > VCM settings? :)

We should not have to mute mic and camera to hide that hide tool. This is not a good customer experience. We understand the intent but the goal here is serving the customer not changing the customer.

trying to use the feature again today. toggle using the keyboard shortcut is not changing the bar

toggle 1:

toggle 2:

notice the contradiction on toggle 2?

I'm guessing the top mic icon is coming from my manufacturer (Lenovo) or windows? 🤷‍♂️

I'm seeing this too. I mostly rely on the shortcut keys, and as this post noted, the toolbar will not go away even when the mic is no longer muted. You have to open powertoys and toggle the switch disable/enable Video Conference Mute.

Also experiencing this. There seems to be a correlation on the selected microphone setting.

I've currently only experienced this when the selected microphone is set to "All" if it's set to just a particular source it seems to work nicely.

This is obviously a workaround as it would be nice to be able to change devices and for the feature to migrate over nicely.

I see the same behavior as @lukelic (selecting a specific mic works, leaving it as All causes the notification to stay permanently on the screen and the status is permanantly stuck to "off"). Thanks for the tip @lukelic

The interesting thing is that this worked great on the initial install and testing of PowerToys, but after a reboot I now see this behavior.

I can also confirm same behavior as @lukelic
