Expected behaviour is to double-click a font file and see a preview with an option to install, instead I get a prompt asking me to define a program. Searched in the default installed programs for "font" and found nothing useful, DDG'd the issue to find that Mint does not ship with a font manager. Installed "Font Manager" by Jerry Casiano from Software Manager and got the job done.

Ability to install fonts without resorting to a search engine is crucial for any os, and given that Mint does just about everything else better and easier than Windows this seems like an oversight; in the absence of a Cinnamon-specific font manager, Casiano's software could be shipped as default as it seems to work with Cinnamon just fine.

Yeah I feel the same, I was trying to install Jetbrains Mono, and when I tried to install the font I saw that Mint doesn't have a Font Manager, it's extremely useful for someone who wants a more customizable linux experience.
