No internet access in guest on macos Monterey

I upgraded to Monterey recently and seem to be running into an issue with VMs when they would not properly boot. This has been the case with centos/rocky images but I think it extends to the rest.
The problem seems to be the missing internet connectivity inside the guest as exemplified with these logs entries from /var/log/cloud-init-output.log:

Even though the setup continues after this seemingly fatal error, it is never able to complete due to lak of sshfs and proper fuse support.

It used to work just fine - e.g. without any custom configuration on my side on Catalina.
I tried updating to lima's tip:

% limactl --version
limactl version 0.9.2-9-g6fefbbe

and rebuilding qemu to use the latest at that time version:

% qemu-system-x86_64 --version
QEMU emulator version 6.2.92 (v7.0.0-rc2-62-gf53faa70bb-dirty)

but it does not seem to help. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

Not sure if that's the images but I have no issues with an Ubuntu image, so apologies for the noise.
