compatibility with streamlit

I am trying to develop an app with streamlit front end, I came as far as being able to display historical data on the page:

import streamlit as st
import asyncio
loop = asyncio.new_event_loop()
asyncio.set_event_loop(loop)
from ib_async import *

ib = IB()
ib.connect('127.0.0.1', 4002,clientId=1)

ib.reqMarketDataType(4)  # Use free, delayed, frozen data
contract = Forex('EURUSD')
bars = ib.reqHistoricalData(
    contract, endDateTime='', durationStr='2 D',
    barSizeSetting='1 hour', whatToShow='MIDPOINT', useRTH=True)

# convert to pandas 
df = util.df(bars)
print(df)
st.dataframe(df)

But when I try to add a button everything breaks.

    st.session_state.bars = ib.reqHistoricalData(
        contract, endDateTime='', durationStr='2 D',
        barSizeSetting='1 hour', whatToShow='MIDPOINT', useRTH=True)


if st.button('Request Data'):
    ibkr_request_data()

if 'bars' in st.session_state:
    # convert to pandas 
    df = util.df(st.session_state.bars)
    print(df)
    st.dataframe(df)

    #TEST: not working

Buttons use eventLoop and it's getting a bit advanced for me to understand how to resolve this. Is anyone else doing something similar?
