Full Hotspots were the original design of Hotspots on the Helium Network and were termed "Full"
because thay stored a copy of the Helium Blockchain, as well as participating in Helium Proof
of Coverage (PoC).
Since April 2022 a software update has turned all Hotspots into "Light" Hotspots which now no longer
store a copy of the Helium Blockchain locally but operate as before and still participate in PoC.
After a further migration to the Solana Blockchain Light Hotspots are Helium IoT Network coverage
providers that store no blockchain data and can participate in all potential reward activity
available to Hotspots.
In comparison to an IoT [Data Only Hotspot](/iot/data-only-hotspots), Light Hotspots are still
additionally eligible for [Proof-of-Coverage](/iot/proof-of-coverage) rewards as well as data
transfer rewards.
