This PR makes the following changes

  • Compatibility and testing up to Python 3.12
  • Modernize by migrating to pyproject.toml from setup.py
  • Migration from nosetests to pytest
  • Add high-level function to do mapping to avoid having to use a mapper class
  • Load site annotations as a resource and add function to return annotations for a given site
  • Usage examples in the README
