JES 6.0 Linux distribution has Windows line endings #134

happy to see that you got replies |
how did I solve it? I copied the script of the jes 5.0 version and pasted it onto the 6.0 version, evidently the 6.0 script has functions/commands that are not accepted in Linux such as the PlistBuddy command which is specific for Mac so the version for Linux 6.0 was poorly translated. Copying and pasting the script of the old version onto the new one can cause further problems but at least this way the program opens and for what we do at school that's enough and more :) |
@suryxUsingLinux My understanding is that JES has essentially been dropped as an on-going project, in part (I think) because Jython development hasn't been very fast/consistent (still no support for Python3, for example). The JES folks should probably say that in the README, but the fact that there hasn't been a commit in over 5 years is certainly a strong hint. |
Nic nailed it. I've been the sole developer for several years now, and I
haven't updated JES for the reasons Nic describes.
Last year, I taught a course with jes4py instead of JES:
https://github.com/gordon-cs/JES4py. It's a great library with almost all
of the JES functionality. However, a lot of my students couldn't install
everything -- older computers, not enough disk space, etc.
Over the summer, i developed a version of jes4py that works in Google
Collaboratory Notebooks. I'm using that in a class now.

If that works well, I'll likely release that in early 2025.

The JES 6.0 Linux distribution has Windows line endings, which breaks the shell scripts.
