Steps to reproduce

  1. Login new session
  2. Verify with Security Phrase or another device is the same
  3. Click on Security & Privacy -> Secure Backup -> Advanced
  4. Backup key cached: not found locally
  5. Restore from Backup
  6. Enter Security Phrase
  7. Error: Unable to restore backup

The problem is that I am not able to decrypt all old messages

How can i fix this issue?

should I press Delete Backup or Reset in the session where I can see all encrypted messages or is there a different way?

regards

Seems like the backup key in secret storage is not the one for your key backup. It's not clear how it's got into this state though. Unless you have another client that is able to restore the backup, it seems the key to your backup is lost.

I'm going to close this as Element is, broadly speaking, behaving correctly here since the key is not the right one. There is some bug somewhere that has got the keys out of sync but that could be Element on another platform on another client entirely.
