The website was tested in the following browsers:
- Chrome √
- Firefox √
- Microsoft Edge √
- Safari √
- Internet Explorer X
- Opera √
It was also tested in the following phone operating systems:
- iOS √
- Android √
Finally, it was tested in the following devices:
- Desktop √
- iPhone 5/SE √
- Pixel 2/2XL √
- Moto 4G √
- Galaxy S5 √
- iPhone 6/7/8 (+Plus) √
- iPhone X/iPhone XS Max √
- iPad/iPad Pro √
- Surface Duo √
Results:
The website had an great performance and could be used perfectly, no funcional issues were found during the testing. However, the layout was not exactly the same (or the intended design) in all systems and devices but the users could interact with ease and achieve their goals successfully.
The most important issues that were found during development that took a considered amount to time to solve are the following:
1. Issue: When users click on any of the options in the navigation bar, they were led to the correct section but couldn't see the title of the section unless they scroll down/up. This was a really bad UX.
- Fixes: 1) All the anchors
<div class="anchors" id="#"></div>
had to be placed outside each<section>
. Because this method didn't work, a second trick was applied. 2) Style was added to each anchor, margin (-) and padding (+), in the index.html file to fix the precision when clicking on the main menu bar options (navigation bar).
<div class="anchors" id="home" style="padding-top: 40px; margin-top: -40px"></div>
<div class="anchors" id="about" style="padding-top: 140px; margin-top: -140px"></div>
<div class="anchors" id="services" style="padding-top: 60px; margin-top: -60px"></div>
<div class="anchors" id="testimonials" style="padding-top: 90px; margin-top: -90px"></div>
<div class="anchors" id="contact" style="padding-top: 90px; margin-top: -90px"></div>
Now the issue is fixed and precision increased to 100%. Credit: http://bit.ly/2ZN3GL2 by Alexander Savin.
2. Issue: When users scrolled all the way down to the bottom of the site, they encountered an extra white space that didn't add any value and seemed like a human error coming from the source code.
- Fixes: 1) Chrome DevTools was used to identify where this problem was coming from. 2) Once the root was detected, the fastest solution was to add
margin-bottom: 0;
to the CSS style sheet to remove that extra white space from the bottom of the site.
3. Issue: The illustration of the section was too big for mobile devices but perfect size for desktop. This generated an extra white space at the right of the screen. Also, the CTA button text was aligned to the left, the text was too long and the colour was not the right one.
- Fixes: 1) Chrome DevTools was also used to identify where this problem was coming from. 2) Once the root was detected, the size of the illustration was reduced to
max-width: 100%
in order to make it responsive. Now, it looks good in all devices (multiple screen sizes).
4. Issue: Users identified various issues in this section. The first one being the phone number was in blue (on mobiles) and it was not readable for most people, besides users were not able to send messages by clicking on the email address in the contact information. The second being the responsiveness of the section, when seeing it on tablet or mobile the contact information didn't centered but stayed on the left. Finally, there was not enough space between the contact information and the form.
- Fixes: The first code below was added to the CSS Style Sheet to fix the color of the mobile phone number and the contact information content alignment when viewed on small screens (tablets and mobiles). The second code was added to the index.html file so that users could send messages just by clicking on the email address in the contact information column.
/* -----[ Section Responsiveness ]----- */
@media screen and (max-width:960px) {
.contact-info,
.contact-information,
.social-icons {
text-align: center;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
color: #F5f6fa;
}
}
<div class="contact-information">
<i class="fa fa-envelope-o"></i>
<p><a href="mailto:effie@gmail.com">effie@gmail.com</a></p>
</div>
5. Issue:
- Fixes:
/* -----[ Section Responsiveness ]----- */
@media screen and (max-width:960px) {
#qualifications {
padding: 50px 0 0 0;
}
}
@media screen and (max-width:600px) {
.school-logo {
display: none;
}
#qualifications {
padding: 50px 0 0 0;
}
#qualifications .col {
padding: 0;
right: 40px;
}
.qualifications-intro {
padding: 0 20px 0 20px;
text-align: center;
}
.qualifications-intro h2 {
font-size: 35px;
}
.qualifications-content p {
display: none;
}
}
The tool used for this code validation was the W3C Markup Validation Service, which was used by Direct Input to make sure there were no erros in the HTML File. The results were the following:
Date: Thursday, Feb 25th, 2021
1. Issue: Bad value "mailto: effie@gmail.com" for attribute href
on element a
: Illegal character in scheme data: space is not allowed.
- Fixes: All the extra spaces were removed resulting in:
<p><a href="mailto:effie@gmail.com">effie@gmail.com</a></p>
The final report shows no errors in the index.html file as they were properly fixed:

The tool used for this code validation was the W3C CSS Validation Service, which was used by Direct Input to make sure there were no erros in the CSS Style Sheet. The results were the following:

The CSS yielded no errors, so I proceeded with further testing. However, it is worth noting that I also got these five warning results to be considered:
Just in case, the testing was done again, this time by File Upload, and the results were exactly the same.
In order to test the website's performance on desktop and mobile, Google Lighthouse was used in both cases.
The initial results were the following:
Date: Thursday, Feb 25th, 2021
The following actions were taken to improve the performance of the website, especially the accessibility:
Urgent Issues:
1. Issue: Properly size images / Avoid enourmous network payloads
- Fixes: Unfortunatly, due to the lack of time this issue could not be solved before the project deadline. However, all the images used on the website will be converted from PNG to formats like JPEG 2000 or WebP to provide better compression for faster downloads and less data consumption. The tools that will be used for this are the following: Convertio (PNG to WebP) and TinyPNG (Image Compression). Goal: Less than 550KB per image.
2. Issue: Links to cross-origin destinations are unsafe
- Fixes: This issue was simply fixed by adding
rel="noopener"
to all external links to prevent security vulnerabilities.
<li>
<img src="assets/images/ah-logo.png" alt="ArchHyve logo">
<a href="https://archhyve.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img src="assets/images/ah-img.png" alt="ArchHyve"></a>
</li>
3. Issue: Image elements do not have explicit widh and height
- Fixes: Unfortunatly, due to the lack of time this issue could not be solved before the project deadline. However, explicit
width
andheight
(size attributes) will be set on image and video elements to reduce layout shifts and improve CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) like explained in Optimize Cumulative Layout Shift.
Example:
<img src="community-logo.jpg" width="640" height="360" alt="the club community official logo"/>
4. Issue: Background and foreground colors do not have a sufficient contrast ratio √
- Fixes: This issue was simply fixed by increasing the contrast of the colors in the background and foreground.
#new-bgfg-colors {
background: #e7e8ef;
color: #434343;
}
5. Issue: Ensure text ramains visible during webfont load
- Fixes:
6. Issue: Form elements do not have associated labels
- Fixes: This issue was simply fixed by adding the associated labels to all form elements.
<!-- Name -->
<label for="fullname">Full Name</label>
<input type="text" name="name" id="fullname" class="form-control" placeholder="Full Name" required/>
/* Invisible Form Labels */
label {
display: none;
}

To test the website accessibility Wave Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool was used. The obtained results are the following:
All "errors" and "alerts" were analysed in detail and the conclusions were the following:
- All the alerts were actually made on purpose for academic reasons only as the external links used in the development of this project are not the real ones (e.g.: social media links) or they have been duplicated as the information shared on the site requires:
- All these errors on the site are the same, the
<a>
tag doesn't contain any text:
In order to fix this to improve the accessibility of the website, alt text
was added to all social media icons so that the text can be detected by screen readers only:
