I would like to speedup the build process by transmitting less data.

Is the cloning duration actually significant?

And be careful with cache invalidation :)

I think the clone will keep the size constant, so it is a good thing.

But I am no sure about the build cache. It caches the target directory as well, which I do not like

It reduced the build time by ~40% so, let's see?
