We adapted the material for GitLab. Here is the fork in case anyone is interested. Is there any interest in contributing back the GitLab variant, for example using different tabs showing either GitHub or GitLab instructions?

Note that this fork still uses the old carpentries lesson template.

My proposal is to leave this open as a could-have to see if there is interest in a GitLab version. But I would suggest to not pick this up now. From our side we don't know yet if we will teach more workshops using GitLab.

@svenvanderburg It would be a good idea to add a link to your GitLab version to the README so people can see if from the repo home page and then we can close this issue?
