HP ProBook 450 G3 Hackintosh (Clover)

My first repository on GitHub :) I am new to hackintoshing computers, this repository provides my experience and overview of my first hackintosh success.

My Clover configuration for running macOS Big Sur or Monterey for HP ProBook 450 G3. Download here! (expires in one year :P)

Overview:

This is a follow up update for Leo3213's Clover configuration for macOS Big Sur 11.3. I updated Clover to v5159 and it removed the update warning message upon startup when previously used v5144. I've never actually figured out how to do everything in Clover as I'm more familiar with OpenCore's simplistic process.

I created this hackintosh frankenstein just last month since October 6. :P

I've provided screenshots and one Cinebench benchmark in the main folder.

NOTES:

This is NOT the higher resolution / touch screen varient of this laptop, the panel on this laptop is 1368x768 (HD)

I haven't been able to successfully install macOS Ventura and above on this laptop due to my rookie experience with hackintoshing. I don't know how to spoof Skylake to Kaby Lake, especially with the HD 520 to UHD 620 iGPU spoofing. 😭

The Synaptics TouchPad really sucks on this laptop, I've only used it for natural scrolling and other features like pinch to zoom, Launchpad, Mission Control, swiping to other virtual desktops etc DO NOT WORK. A workaround was to edit the keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences and use CMD + Option + L as my Launchpad shortcut and Control + Left/Right Arrow to switch desktops.

The laptop takes FOREVER to startup, like I mean the POST screen on the HP logo takes 10 seconds until it boots to the Clover boot manager.

What works?

Everything except for most continuity features such as AirDrop, Bluetooth and the built-in fingerprint reader (Which I doubt you would use it anyways because it SUCKS). Unsure about FaceTime and iMessages.

Detailed List:

  • macOS Big Sur 11.7.10 & Monterey 12.7.6

    • ( i have not worked on Catalina and Ventura+, though small updates work fine like Safari, Final Cut Pro etc)

  • Built-in keyboard (with HP hotkey function keys, swapped fn key functions in BIOS)

    • Audio and Brightness Control Hotkeys work great

  • Built-in trackpad* (ONLY natural scrolling actually)

  • HDMI 1.4 + VGA functionality (unsure about audio as I did not do much testing)

  • Integrated Webcam (though, I've never used it)

  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet functionality (with AirportItlwm kext from OpenIntelWireless)

  • Internal microphone, headphone jack and speakers functionality (with AppleALC kext, layout-id=3)

  • Built-in DVD drive (you can enable the eject icon to menu bar)

  • Native power management and battery status (even shows warning for battery service!)

  • Both USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports (using Hackintool to map proper USB type)

  • Sleep and Wake (with power button light breathing effect)

BIOS Setup:

  • Disable Fast Boot

  • Disable Power On when AC Detected

  • Disable Power On when Lid is Opened

  • Disable Secure Boot

  • Disable Legacy Boot

  • Enable Turbo Boost

  • Enable Hyperthreading

  • Enable Multi-Processor

  • Enable VT-x

  • Disable Wake on LAN

  • Video Memory Size: 64MB (YOU MUST SWITCH TO UMA GRAPHICS)

  • Enable Runtime Power Management

  • Disable Extended Idle Power States

  • Enable Deep Sleep

  • Disable Wake when Lid is Opened

  • Disable Wake on USB

  • Enable Power Control

  • Only 1% of the EFI folder is my doing. I downloaded others' EFI folders and merged them together to create an EFI folder that worked best for me and hopefully other people planning to use my EFI. :)

  • I updated the core kexts to the latest release version (except for miscellanous kexts such as RealtekCardReader.kext and RealtekCardReaderFriend.kext).

  • This configuration is specifically for the i7 varient of this laptop.
