Mostly inspired by #3 it would be great if have some regression tests. Odds of this breaking are small, but nevertheless.

Furthermore if we uncover other issues in the future, we can extend to cover those as well.

Fwiw I have some basic tests locally, but the issue is on freeze until we move to the Arch gitlab instance. Hopefully within a week or two.
