IMHO, as long as footnotes aren't supported with a dedicated syntax by Markdown, they shouldn't be added.

hi @dadosh, on the one side i agree with you... on the other side, markdown seems to be a language everybody forks for its needs.

personally, i find it a better approach (keep the common part simple and add the features you needs in a way it suits you) rather than going the rst way and have a formatting that is (IMO) much harder to type...

anyway, footnotes are not so important to me... we will see...
first, i have to sort out how to get the markdown in...
i'm on my way... but it will take some more time.
