Duplicate version on onedrive web when editing a file from linux

Hi. I have a setup with multiple computers, some are running Linux and others are running Windows. Looking on onedrive web the version history of some files that I edited on both OS I noticed that when I edit a file on Linux it shows 2 versions modified at the same time. And when the file was modified on Windows it shows just one version as expected, see imagem below.

Am I doing some setup wrong or is this the expected behaviour?

Sure.

onedrive v2.5.3
OS: Fedora 41 KDE spin

I did all the through the bpozdena OneDrive GUI. Looking the logs the command used is
exec onedrive --confdir='/home/XXXX/.config/onedrive/accounts/XXXX@gmail.com' --monitor -v

To avoid any interference from the GUI I did setup your client on another computer with Linux without using any GUI. On this computer I did the initial setup granting permission to access my account, did a small sync list, and used the command:
onedrive --monitor --resync
I used the --resync because it was requested but from what I understood should be only onedrive --monitor for my needs.

The result was the same. I created a file "ABC.txt" in the folder and it was detected and uploaded. After two edits, here is the result:

The message about the system trying to delete the file intrigues me, but I don`t know if this is expected.

How are you editing the files - are you using 'vi' or 'vim' ?

If you are using 'vim' - then this is due to how 'vim' actually operates and is a duplicate of #3044 . A fix was published post the v2.5.3 release for this issue. If you manually build the client from source this should be resolved and the bugfix will be in v2.5.4 when it is released.

The timestamp aspect however is a separate issue.

Microsoft, due to how they 'built' Microsoft OneDrive and the Graph API on top of SharePoint, modifies files post upload so that either the timestamp and/or actual content is changed to that what is locally on your system.

When this application uploads a file (new or modified) it performs an integrity check to ensure that the data online matches what is actually stored locally, and corrects the elements online if required. It is this correction that you are potentially experiencing.

To dig further into this, detailed debugging would need to be done to give you a concrete answer as to why it is occurring, and, if this is normal or a bug.

I cannot reproduce your issue when using 'master' or a Personal Account:

The txt file was edited first using 'vi', the second using 'vim'

'vi' edit
