I think we're going to go with the approach in #1947 instead for now since that keeps the status quo (and I'm still not prepared to go to black). I appreciate you putting in this PR and helping to show the options and what things might look like. |

Further to #1317, applies
isortto the code base. Includes a configuration that should be compatible with black.If you wanted to develop this further, you could probably add a GitHub action that would apply this to PR's.
