This tracks the things we need in order to replace teaching GEMPAK.

  • Surface plotting - single value and station model (with contour overlay)
  • Upper air obs -- station model plot (with contour overlay)
  • Gridded data
    • Jupyter widget?
  • Calculation
    • Advection (temperature and vorticity)
    • Thickness
    • Vorticity
    • Absolute vorticity
  • Satellite data
  • Radar data? (pyart)
  • SkewT
  • Accessing IAState gempak archive

Ease of use issues:

  • Variable grid spacing
  • Temperature conversion
  • Field auto calculation
  • Consistent county/state shapefiles
