In the past 12 months or so the Journal of Open Research Software (JORS) have published a number of software papers on weather/climate packages including windspharm, eofs and py-ART. This is obviously great for the authors of these libraries because they are now getting the citations (i.e. academic credit) they deserve for their hard work.
I recently signed on as an Associate Editor with JORS and as a weather/climate scientist I'd love to see a submission from MetPy!
