Navigation (Template)
Hi NAME,
My name is _______ and I am following up on your email requesting information about navigating the website and purchasing a permit. Here is a step-by-step process that will help you navigate the Open Forest website and purchase your permit.
Firstly, you will have to go to https://openforest.fs.usda.gov. This will take you to our home page and from there you will see a dropdown of all the national forests that are participating in this online Firewood permit pilot. Not all National Forests are participating in this online Firewood permit pilot, and not all National Forests sell Firewood permits. If the Forest you want to get a permit for is not listed, please contact your local Forest Service office for more information on their Firewood program.
If your forest is listed, and you've selected it, you will be taken to your forest's Firewood information page. The season dates and costs of the tree for your forest will be towards the top of the page. You will also find all the information you will need to know regarding where to go, and how to cut your tree. Helpful tips for cutting your tree and information regarding equipment can also be found in the lower half of this page. At the bottom of the page there is contact information for your local Forest Service offices, you can contact them for any forest specific questions.
If the season is open, there will be "Buy Permit" button that will allow you to purchase your permit when you are ready. Once you click on it, it will lead you to another page that will ask you for the permit holder name and email address and how many cords you want. Next, you'll be given the opportunity to review rules and regulations. You'll be asked to confirm that you understand them before being taken to Pay.gov for payment processing.
After your payment is provided, you will get a confirmation email with your permit included for you to print out. Then, you will be ready to go gather your firewood!
If anything was unclear or you have other questions, please contact us again and we’ll be happy to help!
Happy Firewood Gathering!
