Serum is an open-source, cross-platform pinball colorization format. To start colorizing you need to install the following applications:
- ColorizingDMD -> used to colorize frames
- SortingCDump -> used to organize frames``
- Complete Visual Pinball installation capable of running ROMs through VPinMAME
The Wiki primarily focuses on the Serum colorizing editor, developed by David "Zedrummer" Lafarge. After learning that his ZeDMD project would not receive PAC support, David created the open-source format and editor, which ultimately led to the creation of Serum.
Subsequently, Markus "mk47" Kalkbrenner took over the ZeDMD project. Since then, Markus has played a pivotal role in advancing the ZeDMD project and significantly contributing to the broader Serum/ZeDMD ecosystem, enhancing its development and functionality.
- Highly advanced editor with many tools
- Support for multiple/extra resolutions
- RGB565 format resulting in a maximum of 65,536 colors per frame
- Backgrounds, Sprites, Dynamic Shadows, Video/Image importing, Color Rotations and more
