Filter by hours: see what's available this week, tomorrow, today, now

On the category page, when using a desktop computer, the left sidebar has room for another assist in navigating the resource directory—and naturally this could be accessed by clicking the menu icon on the smaller screens.

For people in need, a useful filter could be for hours of operation, one that returns all services that are open right now. Maybe it could filter for services open that week, open tomorrow, that day, or right now. Ideally, the mobile version would allow them to schedule a reminder, some kind of push notification for services they want to make it to.

Greg Bloom mentioned the Airtable configured for the Human Services Data Specification used RRule for information about hours of operation. And he sent this link to this issue on the Open Referral repo: openreferral/specification#167

The first element of every RRULE defines the frequency (FREQ) in intervals from years to seconds. All other elements of the RRULE string are optional. The INTERVAL specifies the time interval for the rule, COUNT specifies the number of occurrences and UNTIL=yyyymmdd specifies the end date. Other elements of an RRULE include BYDAY, BYMONTH and BYSETPOS.

Considering the HSDS Airtable template I had a few questions:

Either way, the rows, they have opens_at and closes_at ... would there be a row for each day? If not and each organization has only one row for each service they offer, how do they enter data for different days that have different times for opens_at and closes_at?

I'm not really clear on which column is for the day of week. The abbreviations in the schedule table, maybe those could be clarified, for example, what is dtstart? How does dtstart relate to the opens_at? What is the wkst column for? How are the freq and interval columns used? And the byday, byweekno, bymonthday, byyearday, how are those used?

All that said - here's my best guess to your questions:

I turned "byday" field into a multiselect and added all the days of the week. I think you can select the days and then opens_as, closes_at to build your schedule. If all days aren't tthe same, you'd select frequency=weekly. If it were always the same, then frequency=daily and you wouldn't need to indicate a byday

byday is the day of the week

dtstart is the date after which the schedule become active (I think)

dtstart doesn't relate to opens_at

wkst is --> The week start day. Must be one of the RRule.MO, RRule.TU, RRule.WE constants, or an integer, specifying the first day of the week. This will affect recurrences based on weekly periods. The default week start is RRule.MO. (from here: https://jakubroztocil.github.io/rrule/) I don't think it's needed unless you're using the numberical date stuff in RRULE.
