Project renaming: switch « brick » to « base [of knowledge] » [part 1]
Browse files Browse the repository at this point in the history
After using brick of knowledge to name this artifact, switch to a base
of knowledge on open models, with the aim to have a more name that
sounds more natural.

It was unclear how to name it at the origin as there is few example from
which getting some inspirations, échec du pavé dans la marre.

This notion of knowledge base may be a rising topics to structure
knowledge, and therefore for openness movements. It will be a way to
promote this kind of artifact, while making it easier to transmit,
knowledge base can be more intuitive to understand and to share.

# Open Models - Brick of Knowledge
# Open Models - Knowledge Base

**\[Brick under construction, see [roadmap](organisation/roadmap.md)\]**
**\[Base under construction, see [roadmap](organisation/roadmap.md)\]**

The digital is a new world that we have only just begun to explore.

Due to its capacity for the free circulation of knowledge and large-scale collaboration, unique phenomena are taking shape: open models that form the epicentre of this digital revolution.

Omnipresent, we know almost nothing about them. Open models have already shaped the digital world and could tomorrow help transform society in the face of the crises of the Anthropocene by changing our relationship to knowledge.

The brick of knowledge on open models is intended as a digital common for mastering these new concepts: Open (Source) Software, Open Science, Open Education, Open Hardware, Open Data, Open Innovation, Open Standard, Open Organization...

This resource is intended as a knowledge base freely available to all to help you grasp the concept of open models.

The objectives are multiple: to understand & disseminate the concept of open models, to broaden one's digital culture, to discover how to build an open project, to appreciate the potential of knowledge dissemination and collaboration on Internet...

Uses will emerge depending on who uses it and what ideas come to mind.

For the time being, the construction of this brick has only just begun, with the beginnings of a plan for its content (https://github.com/Open-Models/Brique/issues/1). It consists of defining the concept of "open models", explaining the history of the phenomenon and showing how open projects are structured.

The aim is to reduce this needed energy as much as possible. Various elements will reduce this friction, such as the availability of information, the way decisions are made, the complexity of the resource, the digital environment and so on.

The basic practice in the software world is to provide a "contribution guide", the documentation will be a tool to enable this integration. For example, the Python language offers a guide to contributing: https://devguide.python.org/. The quality of the code, its structuring and, more generally, the complexity of a resource will influence how easy it is to contribute. If nobody understands it, in a « spaghetti code » for example, this will make participation very difficult.

On certain new subjects or those that are insufficiently taught in traditional education, it even seems necessary to rely on open education for training, starting with open models or ecology.

There is no single answer to the problem of how to produce open education training. There is a whole range of possible approaches, from publishing a PowerPoint-type presentation under an open license, to structuring a complex environment for collaboratively producing OER and enabling interaction between learners.

While we know that much remains to be invented, the tools needed to produce open educational resources will vary from one project to another, depending on financial and human resources, technical skills, and so on.
