Octo Game is still an active work in progress. Check back often for more content!
The most recent version of Octo Game is currently deployed on Heroku. Also be sure to catch our developer log here! -Note that the current build has a bug disallowing login. We're working on it!
Octo Game is a 2D party game heavily inspired by Netflix's hit series Squid Game, set in a dystopian future. Octo Game features a series of minigames in which the player and up to seven others battle against each other to stand atop the leaderboard and win first place. Each minigame will test the players' reflexes, memory, or logic. Taking a cue from Squid Game itself, many of the minigames are based on childhood games, such as Red Light, Green Light, Hide and Seek, Four-Square, and King of the Hill. With each variation on a beloved classic game, Octo Game delivers a familiar experience for players, while offering a unique spin on the original.
Octo Game currently makes use of the following technologies1:
- Small bug fixes
- Implement "Hide and Seek" map & functionality
- Re-implement Signup/Login screens with database connectivity
- Game won/lost messages
- Less jolting transitions from scene to scene
- Improve room/lobby experience to be more user friendly
- Snowball Fight, Tag, King of the Hill, Tower of Hanoi (& more!) minigames to be added
- User information saved from session to session, with stats tracked and achievements based on in-game performance
- Users will earn in-game currency from playing and winning, and will be able to spend currency on aesthetic items in-game
Octo Game was created by Scott Getz, Joe Elias, Sergio Rodriguez, and Rusty Porter.
