📣Testing applications on Met Office new Platforms

We request that all developers ensure that, where supported, test suites are run on Azure SPICE and Quads. While, no formal science evaluation is being done yet on Azure SPICE and Quads results, we need to be sure that applications at least run to completion. KGOs do not have to be updated by the developer; for now KGOs on the new platforms will be updated by the code reviewer on trust.

• Quads, XC40, and Old SPICE: Please test all applications
• Azure SPICE (Cylc 8 only): WIP, encouraged to contribute as testers.

Note

Since version 2.0, LFRic/Apps have been configured to run on Azure SPICE, Quad, old SPICE, and XC40. The forthcoming releases of UM 13.8 and JULES 7.8 will enable users to run suites on Azure SPICE and Quad.

Testing Guidelines

1. Preparation: Ensure that your development environment is up to date with the latest dependencies and configurations.
2. Testing on Quads, XC40, and Old SPICE:
   • Verify that all applications run smoothly without errors.
   • Document any issues encountered and report them to the support team.
3. Testing on Azure SPICE (Cylc 8 only):
   • Focus on compatibility and performance.
   • Compare results against old SPICE to ensure consistency.
4. Feedback:
   • Provide detailed feedback on your testing experience, highlighting any discrepancies or performance improvements observed.
