Behavioral Observation

Once the Experiment Management (previous section) is finished, the evaluation of behavioral videos can be conducted. For starters, clicking on the group of choice will expand into the list of the subjects saved. By selecting the subject to be evaluated, a pop-up window will appear with the options: EVALUATIONS (evaluation records that have been carried out so far) and EVALUATE (create a new evaluation).

Evaluation Setup

A click on EVALUATE will start the behavior evaluation, and a pop-up window will immediately appear asking in a two-step process for the parameters of the video evaluation. The first step is meant to select the behavioral test to evaluate, and the experimental subject (by default the one selected from the start), once these items have been selected, a click on the NEXT button will trigger the second step. The following section will consist of selecting the behaviors to evaluate (previously registered in each test), once checked, the user can select the video by pressing the SELECT VIDEO button, and a prompt will show up to let the user select the desired video in mp4 format. Once the parameters of the evaluation are all set, clicking the START button will take the navigation to the Analysis screen.

Video Evaluation

At the upper right corner of this screen is the Analysis section, where UVehavior will confirm the options selected for the current evaluation, such as the test, its duration, the group, the subject, and the name of the video selected. Likewise, in the section down below will be displayed the Behavior Log, where the behaviors selected to analyze and their corresponding keys will be shown along with the variables of study per behavior: the latency, frequency, and duration during the test. On the other hand, the left part of the screen will show the vide player window with the selected video loaded, and the following media controls:

  • PLAY / PAUSE: Toggle play/pause video before and during the analysis (alternatively pressing the space bar, without altering the record times that have been taken so far).
  • RESTART: Start the video again before starting the analysis.
  • START / END ANALYSIS: Starts / ends the analysis according to the duration time assigned to the test.
  • FULL SCREEN: Full screen (once the analysis has started, this function can be executed and still keep a record of the behaviors that we are evaluating).

Once the duration of the test (analysis) is over, the video will stop and the user must press the FINISH ANALYSIS button so that the evaluation record is saved. Afterward, a new pop-up window will appear with a summary of the data ( latency, frequency, and duration of the analyzed behaviors), with the options NEW ANALYSIS and EXIT.
