• Growing a master from new material, requires breaking down any older material.
• Inculcating knowledge,
• Connecting to the source.
• Retraining into the Jedi proper.

Basically, you're making a level 100 individual in the space of a few years, by training the adept as a master. For this reason, few are selected. It is indeed a shortcut to life. As such, the adept is expected to complete obligations before becoming completely independent. And to relinquish the common weal of comforts.
