This should be rendered as

One could use the { and } delimitors and configure mathajax with said separators.

Ok it turns out this is a rather large rabbit hole!
I wonder what the best way to do this is.

For the short term you could simply strip the math for consistency of the input, however this could remove important information from the description. I assume the content is plain text, thus you could attempt to render it with mathajax and fall back to plain text if this fails
